Building a G5RV Antenna

Here are the measurements to build your own full sized G5RV antenna, I am using this antenna myself and find it very good, although I feed the antenna at the start of the ladder feed with RG58 coaxial feeder, I still get a good SWR across the HF 1.8 to 30Mhz bands using a good antenna tuner.

Below is a diagram of the antenna with its measurements.

The top section of the G5RV is made up of two sections with a center insulator, for the wire top sections I used 14swg copper wire, which works very well, the ladder (open feeder) is 300 ohm type but 450 ohms good quality feeder could be used, both available cheaper at most radio rallies, there is always some debate as to whether the G5RV antenna needs a balun or not, I don't use one, but many articles on the internet discuss this controversial issue, but get the antenna built first and then decide for yourself, the connection between the ladder feed and top sections must be soldered as shown in the diagram and then protected from the weather and elements by a coat of varnish.

Have fun building this project.
