About myself and my
ham radio station, as you've landed on this page I
guess you'd like to know more about me and my
hobby.
Well as I mentioned
on the home page I have been a licensed radio
amateur since 1977, and have been involved in many
aspects of the hobby, from taking part in contest
working and field days to being involved with
RAYNET (the radio amateur emaergency network) for
a number of years the hobby has given me much
pleasure, I was born in Old Clee on the
Cleethorpes, Grimsby border, my parents were both
from Lincolnshire where most of my family
still live, but I spent many years living in West
Yorkshire, before finally managing to escape and
come back to Lincolnshire.
2007.
Work wise I started
my working life as an electrical engineer mainly
involved in industrial work, and CNC equipment
before moving onto maintenance work at a large
bottling plant, with 6 bottling lanes to maintain
and repair it kept our small team of engineers
very busy, during this time I also ran a mobile
disco company in the evenings, I look back
and don't know how!!, after the plant
re-located it became a natural progression for me
to go back to college and study for a
qualification in electronics, obtaing a degree in 1985
this was a four year course and very in depth but
very enjoyable, and something I wished I'd donea long
time before.
On qualifying as an
electronics engineer, I wondered what to put my
new found knowledge to use in, it was all at the
time when the home computer had really
started to become popular, a suggestion from a
friend gave me the ideal solution to my next move
to open what was to become a very successful
computer sales and repair business, and over the
next 10 years it flourished, I also at this time
got involved with the local hospital radio station
and presented two shows a week there for many
years.
But all good things come to an end
and following large commercial interest in
computer sales and repairs by large companies,
a lot of the small retailers including
myself sadly dropped out of the market, some but
not many managed to survive the downturn for the
smaller retailer, although that is now turning
full circle and many small computer shops are
springing back up I have since spent many happy
years as a radio ham and in other radio projects
getting involved with community radio from 2004
until very
recently. |
