Technical Pages

 For Beginners

Welcome to the G8NQN online Website.

Left is the main shack at the station, the selection of rigs used cover all frequencies from 160m through to 70cm, I don't currently work any frquencies above the 70cm band

Antennas used are:-

For VHF working a 2m 70cm glass fibre ground plane and a 2m 70cm co-linear antenna for data comms:- for the HF & 6m bands there is a sigma HF X80 vertical antenna mounted at 10meters from the ground level.

On this website you will find many useful features and projects for you to try out.

In the menu on the left you will find links to most of the main pages on the website, there are pages giving more information about the station and myself, and a photo album which like the whole site is being updated constantly.

There is also a Technical section with drawings and building instructions for many projects, it is hoped to eventually build this into a complete technical library with many projects being documented, For Beginners there is a section totally devoted to the understanding of receivers and transmitters all including well explained technical drawings, there is also a section covering recognising components and there values, on the beginners pages there are links to various sites that cover the RAE exam theory in detail, this section can be used as a reference for those taking the RAE at a training centre.

The section covering component recognition is also useful for everyone not just beginners, as it has pin outs for many components and there symbols and colour codes for colour coded components,

Here are the Direct links to the component  pages:-

And for Component Colour Codes........... <Click Here>

You can use these pages as a daily working reference, because if you're like me you cannot remember everything.

Hope you enjoy the site.
